William Penn Newsletter
1st June 2015
We hope that you all enjoyed the half term break and welcome you to the last half term of this academic year.
May Day Reminder – Friday 5th June
As you are aware our May Day celebrations this year take place on Friday 5th June at 1.30pm. Mrs B and the children will be working very hard to rehearse the traditional dances and routines and we are very grateful to her for managing the event so smoothly. For those of you who are new to the school, we are happy for girls to come to school in summer dresses/skirts/flowers in hair and boys to come to school in colourful T-shirts with school grey trousers/shorts. We would ask that all children wear plimsolls. This is a community event and we are happy to welcome friends, neighbours and extended family. If you have any flowers or greenery to dress the bower, please pass these to Mrs B on the Friday morning.
William Penn Open Day – Wednesday 10th June
This term’s Open Day will take place on Wednesday 10th June. You are warmly invited to join us in school at a time of your choice and for as long or short a time as is convenient to you. We would just ask you to be mindful that the teachers will be teaching and unable to discuss your child’s progress with you on this day. If you find that a lot of parents are in one class, it would be appreciated if you could spread your attendance out so that the children can carry on with their learning with minimal disruption. Having said this, we are thoroughly looking forward to welcoming as many of you as possible on the 10th. Please enter the school via the front office and ensure that the gate is closed when entering or leaving the site. If you have time, we would welcome your comments in our Vistors’ Book which is available in the office.
Governors' Summer BBQ Tickets Reminder
We are now taking ticket pre-orders for the Governors' Summer BBQ. The BBQ has been organised to help raise funds towards the school new build. The first phase of building is for a much needed new classroom with an attached breakout room to be used for Group Teaching and Special Educational Needs. The cost to build the classroom is £265,000. Currently we have raised £109,000 and need to start the work this year in order to keep our planning permission. The William Penn Governing Body are working very hard applying to various governmental departments and grant schemes, but as always every little helps! Tickets for the BBQ are only £5 per adult and £2.50 per child and include entrance and one BBQ item. In addition to fundraising, the event will give us all a chance to get together and celebrate another great year at the school whilst enjoying some fantastic live entertainment. A pre-order form for tickets to the Governors' Summer BBQ was sent home with all children last week and is also attached with this newsletter. Please return to the school office with payment and feel free to invite family and friends. Tickets will be handed out after half term. Many thanks for your support.
